New Patients

New Patients — Welcome to PersonalEyes Vision Care

We're thrilled you've chosen PersonalEyes for your eye care. Here's everything you need to know to prepare for your first visit so we can make the most of your time together.

Before Your Visit

What to Bring to Your First Appointment

Insurance Card

Bring both your vision and medical insurance cards. We accept most major plans and will verify your benefits before your visit.

Photo ID

A valid government-issued photo ID such as a driver's license or passport is required for all new patients.

Medication List

A complete list of all current medications, including over-the-counter supplements, helps Dr. Patel assess your eye health thoroughly.

Previous Prescription

If available, bring your most recent glasses or contact lens prescription from your previous eye care provider.

Sunglasses

Your eyes may be dilated during the exam. Bring sunglasses to wear afterward, as your eyes will be light-sensitive for a few hours.

Arrive 15 Minutes Early

Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to complete new patient paperwork and get settled.

Your First Visit

What to Expect During Your Exam

A comprehensive eye exam at PersonalEyes typically takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the complexity of the exam. Dr. Patel takes a thorough, unhurried approach to ensure we evaluate every aspect of your vision and eye health.

Case History Review

We start by reviewing your health history, current medications, family eye history, and any visual concerns you may have.

Vision Testing

Precise measurement of your visual acuity and refraction to determine your glasses or contact lens prescription.

Eye Health Evaluation

A comprehensive evaluation of your eye health using advanced diagnostics including OCT, retinal imaging, and pressure testing.

Results & Recommendations

Dr. Patel personally reviews all findings with you, answers every question, and discusses your treatment plan.

May include dilation. Dr. Patel may recommend dilating your eyes to get a complete view of the retina and optic nerve. Dilation typically lasts 4 to 6 hours — please bring sunglasses.

Pediatric Patients

Bringing Your Child for the First Time?

Kid-Friendly Approach

Dr. Patel has extensive experience with pediatric patients and uses a gentle, patient approach that puts children at ease during their exam.

First Exam at 6 Months

The American Optometric Association recommends a first eye exam at 6 months of age, then at age 3, before kindergarten, and annually after that.

Early Detection Matters

Many childhood vision problems — including amblyopia, strabismus, and high refractive errors — are treatable when caught early.

Frequently Asked Questions

New Patient FAQ

Do I need a referral to see Dr. Patel?

No referral is needed. PersonalEyes Vision Care welcomes all patients directly. You can book your appointment online or call our office at 817-527-3604 to schedule your visit.

What if I don't have insurance?

We welcome patients with or without insurance. We offer competitive self-pay rates and accept CareCredit for flexible financing. Our team will provide transparent pricing before your visit so there are no surprises.

Can I wear my contacts to my eye exam?

Yes, you can wear your contact lenses to your appointment. However, if you are coming in for a contact lens fitting or evaluation, Dr. Patel may ask you to remove them during certain tests. Bring your glasses as a backup in case your contacts need to be removed for part of the exam.

Will my eyes be dilated?

Dilation is an important part of a thorough eye exam. Dr. Patel may recommend dilation to get a complete view of your retina and optic nerve. Dilation typically lasts 4 to 6 hours, so we recommend bringing sunglasses. We use advanced retinal imaging that can reduce the need for dilation in some cases.

How do I transfer my records to PersonalEyes?

We make it easy. Simply provide us with the name and contact information of your previous eye care provider, and our team will request your records on your behalf. You can also bring any previous prescriptions or medical records with you to your first visit.
